The influence of country and brand image on the evaluation of foreign products the moderating role of the nationality of the consumer
Our aim is contributing to the debate about the causal direction between these concepts that exists in the literature. Additionally, the mediating role of brand image and its contribution to the relation between the country image of the country and the evaluation of the product is confirmed. To contrast the proposed hypotheses, data of three groups of consumers is compiled by means of a survey in a simulated hypermarket. Results confirm the non-recursive relation between the image of the country and the evaluation of the product, however neither the mediating role of brand image is the same for both directions of the relation nor for the different groups of consumers in question
On the Use of the Oxford Comma in Early Modern English Scientific Writing
Punctuation has traditionally been disregarded in the literature due to its suggested arbitrariness and inconsistency in pre-modern English. Some of the factors that have contributed to this neglect are the lack of systematisation and correspondence to modern punctuation and the overlapping functions of punctuation symbols (Lucas 1971, 19; Mitchell 1980, 412; Calle-Martín and Miranda-García 2005, 28). The Renaissance stands out as the transitional period towards the consolidation of the English system of punctuation, the establishment of the printing press contributing to the standardisation of both the inventory of marks of punctuation and the functions attributed to them.
The study of historical punctuation has been mainly concerned with Old and Middle English. Even though the early Modern English system of punctuation has also received editorial attention, most of the studies are concerned with literary compositions, while the other text types have been hitherto disregarded, scientific texts in particular. The unexplored condition of punctuation is even more significant in the particular case of early Modern printed texts, despite their active participation in the process of standardisation. Curiously enough, no studies have focused on the use of the Oxford comma in the history of English. The Oxford comma (also known as serial comma) refers to the existence of a pause immediately before the conjunctions and/or in a series of three or more elements in a clause. The present paper assesses the use of the so-called Oxford comma in early Modern English handwritten and printed documents. In the light of this, this paper pursues the following objectives: a) to study the use and distribution of the Oxford comma in the period 1500-1700; and b) to evaluate the distribution of this punctuation mark in the two types of writing, i.e. handwriting and printing.Universidad de Málaga. The use of cyclohexane as a new adhesive for airborne pollen sampling
Carbon Tetrachloride, used as a solvent for the silicone adhesive in airborne pollen sampling, has been recently interdicted by the Registration Evaluation Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) protocol due to its dangerous effects on environment and human health (Manibusan et al. 2007) and it will no longer be produced. Therefore, the need to find a new solvent for the silicon-coating solution is mandatory in order to continue aerobiological research. In a previous study, Thibaudon et al. (2014) concluded that there were no-significant differences between Diethyl Ether and Carbon Tetrachloride and the first can be used as solvent for capturing airborne pollen. The importance of this topic led us to investigate the efficiency of other solvents to use alternatively for the adhesive coating solution. The aim of this preliminary study is to compare the efficiency of airborne pollen grain capture on silicone fluid by using Cyclohexane solvent as an alternative to Carbon Tetrachloride, the solvent used by the Spanish Aerobiology Network (REA). The study was carried out in Malaga (southern Spain), from 16 February to 26 April, 2015 (10 weeks), with the aid of a 7-day Hirst type volumetric trap, located on the roof of the Faculty of Science, 15 m above ground level. For this, the drum was covered by a Melinex tape, coated with silicone adhesive containing two different solvents: one half of the tape with Carbon Tetrachloride and the other half with Cyclohexane, following the methodology previously described by Thibaudon et al. (2015). The position of the two sampling adhesives was reversed from right to left every week. The counting method consisted of 2 continuous horizontal sweeps per each half of the tape (Galán et al., 2007). The results obtained, expressed as number of pollen grains/m3, will be statistically analyzed in order to detect possible differences, if any. Finally, the results, regarding total pollen as well as the different pollen types, separately, will be presented in order to propose or not Cyclohexane as an alternative solvent to Diethyl Ether and Carbon Tetraclorhidre, more dangerous substances from a toxic point of view (Toxicology Data Network, TOXNET, http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/).Universidad de Málaga. Moderating effect of the type of brand on the belief-attitude-behaviour model
Drawing from the Signaling theory we built a model of the moderating effects of the type of brand in a belief-attitude-behaviour model, namely brand evaluation, brand attitude and purchase intention. We empirically test this model with 400 consumers in Mexico. Previously we had conducted another survey with also 400 Mexican consumers to classify brands into global, local and glocal. Our results suggest that brand quality, brand familiarity and brand image are common factors that positively influence brand attitude for the three brand categories. In addition, brand attitude is closely linked to brand purchase intention. Moreover, the type of brand moderates the relationship between brand quality and brand attitude, and between brand attitude and brand purchase intention, the relationship being weaker for glocal brands than for local or global
Model Thermohaline Trends in the Mediterranean Sea during the Last Years: A Change with Respect to the Last Decades?
Temperature and salinity outputs from ECCO (years 93–09) and GLORYS (years 03–09) models have been used to compute the thermohaline and steric sea level trends in the surface (0–150 m), intermediate (150 m–600 m), and deep (600 m–bottom) layers of the Mediterranean Sea. Some changes with respect to the second half of the 20th century have been observed: the cooling of the upper waters of the entire eastern basin since 1950 seems to have vanished; the warming of WMDW historically reported for the second half of the last century could have reversed, although there is no agreement between both models at this point (trends of different sign are predicted); the salinification of WMDW reported for the previous decades is not observed in the south-westernmost area in the period 93–09, and a clear change from positive to negative in the steric sea level trend with respect to the period 93–05 is detected due to the sharp decreasing steric sea level of years 02–06
An MDE approach for Runtime Monitoring and Adapting Component-based Systems: Application to WIMP User Interface Architectures
In certain systems, software must be adapted at
runtime to the requirements and changes occurring in the
context. A strategy to achieve this goal is to model such systems
as software architectures making use of the Component-based
Software Engineering (CBSE). Thus, the system can be adapted
through the reconfiguration of the software architectures. In
this paper we present a schema for the adaptation of software
architectures at runtime based on the system context observation.
The software system is defined by means of architectural
models at two levels: abstract and concrete. We use a trading
process to regenerate concrete architectural models from their
abstract definitions and a component repository. We also use
Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) techniques to transform at
runtime such models in order to achieve the system adaptation
to the monitored context by using observers. This article
describes a case study of component-based user interfaces to
illustrate our approach.
A trading and model-based methodology for adapting dynamic user interfaces
